Evergreen. Large, formal rose to peony form blooms of deep red flower freely during spring. Will tolerate moderate frosts. Upright, narrow but bushy habit with bronzy-red new foliage.
Cultural: Magnificent flowering evergreen, suitable for general gardens, containers, espalier or bonsai. Plant in cool, moist, lime-free soil, with surrounding soil. If necessary, improve texture and drainage by adding peat moss, compost, etc. Avoid planting in very frosty areas. Acidic fertiliser applied annually after flowering is beneficial. Camellias are quite hardy, happy in full sun or filtered sunlight. Mulch roots in summer to keep cool and retain moisture.
